Every year, in April, the United States White House celebrates the Easter Season with the US White House Easter Egg Roll. This year, the celebrations are in support of the First Lady Michelle Obama's 'Let's Move!' initiative is focused on promoting health and wellness with the theme, 'Hop into Healthy, Swing into Shape'.
The day-long event is to be attended by some 30,000 people from across the country and will feature live music, sports courts, cooking stations, story-telling and, of course Easter egg rolling. The Egg Roll is a traditional Easter race during which children push an egg through the grass with a long-handled spoon on the South Lawn of the Presidential Mansion. It will feature live music, sports courts, cooking stations, story-telling and the Easter Egg rolling. Among those invited to the 21st April function this year by the US First Lady, will be a couple of women of Indian descent. One is Nina Davuluri who has the distinction of being the first Indian (and second Asian) beauty to win the coveted Miss America title. She was the first to perform a Bollywood dance on the Miss America stage earlier this year. She will be one of those on stage reading out stories during the Storytelling function. Another Indian-origin woman will be Maneet Chauhan, who was born in Ludhiana and is a celebrity chef and well-known TV personality famed for her dahi wada lentil fritters. She will be one of the six chefs preparing healthy eating demonstrations in the “Play with your Food” station.
